Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses

Understanding the work of aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nurses is an emerging area of study. Dr Odette Best, based at QUT in Brisbane is at the forefront of this special field of nursing history. Dr Best is a member of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery History Group.

Sally Goold OAM is a Registered Nurse and Wiradjuri woman from Narrandera, NSW.  Sally has recorded accounts of individual nurses and their struggles in becoming nurses, and challenges they faced in Australian health care services in her book: In Our Own Right: Black Australian Nurses' Stories.
